Uniting the church in Luton to pray for the town of Luton

What are our aims?

We seek to unite the church in Luton to pray for the town of Luton. We believe God answers our prayers and that we experience a peace and prosperity in Luton that we would not have known without our unified prayer. We see doors open for the gospel that I believe would not have opened without the churches of the town praying together. God says: Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life for evermore. (Psalm 133v1, 3b) As we work and pray together God commands His blessing to rest upon us.

When we come together to pray for our town we leave on the altar some of the comfort, and self-interest that can be involved in praying for the people and work that is going on in our own patch. We step outside the comfort zones of our own church buildings and patterns of prayer. Then as we pray for the blessing of ministries that we are not directly involved in, we love one another as Christ commanded us to.

Our council and other bodies in the town take us more seriously when we come together and present a unified voice and witness. We are more than the sum of our parts. This is humbling, it is also incredibly encouraging and enriching as we are inspired by the prayers of folk from different traditions and take part in large gatherings of prayer or times organised prayer that enable great waves of sustained prayer go up for our town.
