Uniting the church in Luton to pray for the town of Luton

Getting Christians in Schools together

Posted on 06 09, 2010 by helen

Dear friends,

I am sending you a copy of an idea I’ve had for a long while now to get Christians in schools together for God’s purposes.

I would like to invite you (and any other Christians in schools that you know) to join me in seeking God over this venture. I am hosting an evening on Monday 14th June, 7:45pm at my house (5 Trinity Rd, LU3 1TR) to share, chat through and pray through any ideas we can think of to make it happen on a town wide scale. I would really appreciate your thoughts on my proposal below. Let me know what you think and look forward to seeing you on 14th June,

Thank you,

Yours faithfully

Emma Riley

“Christians in Schools” Proposal

Compiled by Emma Riley 19/01/10

My Starting Point

Mark 1. vs 16

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

God calls me to follow Him and be made into a fisher of men. Being a fisher of men includes while I’m at work in my school community.

Vision

To see Christians in all the schools of Luton (and beyond) encouraged and empowered to outwork Jesus’ command in their place of work :- Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Love your neighbour as yourself.

Aim

To form a network of Christians in schools across Luton (and beyond) who can support and pray for one another when gathered together and when dispersed among their school communities.

To provide the opportunity for Christians in schools to hear from God corporately and develop their faith in His plans and purposes for their school communities.

Action

§ Host events for Christians in all schools across Luton to meet together (for fellowship, prayer, teaching etc).

§ Gather together contact details of Christians in schools who would like to be part of this network.

Possible way forward

§ Seek out others who can identify with the vision and form a team to coordinate the network and events.

§ Have an informal meet of my own Christian contacts to pray and talk through vision and aims.

§ Plan initial event for Christians in schools to gather together (first one in Autumn term 2010)

§ Advertise event in Stopsley Baptist Church meetings (services and small groups), through SBC website.

§ Contact ‘Transforming Luton’ committee to advertise event town wide.

§ Contact LCET to advertise event.
