Pray for Magistrates in Luton

Posted on 01 22, 2009 by Cathy

Pray for Magistrates in Luton:
Criminal cases all begin at a Magistrates court and most are resolved here.
Magistrates are volunteers, who are not legally trained but do have a legal advisor.
Magistrates have power to sentence to up to 6 months in prison.
There is a panel of 3, including the chair. All have an equal say though the chair makes the pronouncement.
Mostly the three are in agreement thought sometimes a majority verdict and sentence is passed.
Please pray for:
- Wisdom and justice in the verdict and sentencing
- The burden on the magistrates who see and hear of horrible things
- More Christians to be involved, who can pray for the people they meet (you can put yourself forward to be a magistrate)
- The prison and probation service, for the rehabilitation of offenders
- That churches and Christians can reach out with a helping hand – somethings that many offenders will never have experienced before
- Help with drugs and alcohol addictions that are often a root cause of offending
- The breaking of generational patterns
- That justice is also done for victims
This information and the prayer pointers were shared by Yemi a Christian Magistrate, at the Transforming Prayer: “Peace on our Streets” in November.
