Pray for Child Protection in Luton
Those working for Child Protection have been much in the news recently as the baby P case has raised safety concerns for vulnerable children in the UK. A Social worker from Luton was interviewed on Radio 4 in an interview which painted a very positive picture of the Luton team.
Give thanks that the Child Protection team in Luton is nearly fully staffed, only 1 vacancy in a team of 10 (unlike many teams around the country.) Pray that they continue to fill vacancies as they arise.
Give thanks for this positive report on Luton in the national media.
There have been 100% increase in referrals since August last year. The Luton team receive between 100 and 200 calls per day. Some are calls from Children, some are referrals from Police. Pray that they will be able to respond appropriately to each call. That they will have wisdom to discern which children are in real danger and to know how to protect them.
Pray for the team who are under considerable pressure. The recommendation is that they should respond to each call with a visit to the child. The admin for each 1 hour visit takes about 11/2 hours to complete with 5 document of 30 pages each to fill in.
Pray that the council will be able to employ a larger team or extra admin staff to help with the paperwork.
Pray for the National Social Work task force as they look at making the work more manageable and effective for children at risk.
Pray for children and adults who are involved in situations where children are in danger or harm or neglect.
Pray for all adults who have care for children that they may be able to do so with patience, wisdom and respect, that the children of Luton will know love.
